Digital Roughs Redesigning an Ad.

In these advertisements I experimented with layout by using scale, balance, and proximity to get the point across to the viewer. I wanted to create a clear hierarchy making the viewer's eye travel from the most important element of the ad to the least important. The hierarchy that I am trying to correctly portray is; the girl, slogan, image of sunscreen,  tag line: "beauty of sun protection", and the paragraph.

Paletas Research Part 1 Short Summary w/ Pics

Research can be fun!
In ad 2 our second project is to create are own paletas vender, it can be anything, and we are suppose to create an ad campaign. The first step is research. We decided to eat our research on our first outing. Next week on Tuesday after class we are taking the bus to La to find more paletas..
(competition)

Paletas are handmade Mexican ice pops. They come in a variety of flavors. There are two different categories that they break up into water-based and milk-based. They are also made with fresh fruit and the water-based ice pops contain little or no fat so they are healthy.

For Research we started to look around grocery stores such as Food For Less and look at our competitors. Also, we had to try some! :) Strawberry (Fresa), Michoacana brand is delicious. Michoacana is a family run business, the Gutierrez guarantee authenticity. They pride themselves on tradition.

Our target audience is the middle class working adult in a metropolitan area such as Los Angeles County. We want to have a high class ice cream truck and possibly a designed freezer to sell to venders in LA. Not too expensive but we want it to have a clean desirable look.

5 More Thumbs on Bad Ad

The brand in the ad is Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen and my target audience is teenage girls. I chose my target audience because I found this ad in seventeen magazine and the majority of readers are teenage girls. I choose to change the format of the page from a vertical to a horizontal so i had more room to work with. Also so I could make the slogan come from the girl's mouth in the advertisement. I'd change the typeface to Helvetica but not for the slogan I'd like to keep that as is.

Redesigning the Bad Ad in the last post (10 Thumbnails+Original Layout)

I took the existing info and aspects of my bad ad and re-design/re-arranged things to portray a clearer message. Also I felt the advertisement needed to breath more and be more exciting. The centered type is boring and an easy fix to an ad that could have be worked on more. I think a lot more roughs need to be generated to make the ad work but I got some good versions of this ad out of this exercise.

Another Bad Ad w/ text

I think this advertisement is okay but all the centered type bothers me. I think who ever designed this ad could have been a bit more creative with the placement of the text and photos. Although I don't particularly like this ad some of the elements are quit successful.

Why I'm taking AD2 and Good/Bad Ex. of AD

I'm taking Advertising 2 Spring semester at El Camino College because I want to be successful in the Graphic Design Business. I believe in order to do this you need to first acquire the skills and experience i will learn from this class. Also it is a required class to receive the Graphic Design certificate that I've been currently pursuing for two years.

Good AD

This Ad is successful bec
ause it has a strong photo and also it has a clear typographic hierarchy. It's easy to read and understand. Plus it's interesting with means it's successful because as the viewer I am drawn to this ad; it makes me laugh.

Bad AD

I believe this ad isn't successful because as the viewer I get confused the message is not as clear as it should be in order to be a successful advertisement. There is no context to back up the photograph. I'm not saying it's not strong photographically because it is but as an advertisement I am not convinced it works.
